                                                              Analysis For Beloved


My interpretation of the last two pages of the book Beloved is how Beloved repeats herself by saying
This is not a story to pass on". The saying "It is not a story to pass on". While reading the book and it being so intense and complicated to understand she recommends no one else reads it because it's so brutal even with the other quote meaning the same thing. Sixty million and more refers to slavery back in 1873 Sethe the mother didn't want her child to be sold as slaves so she kills them. Sethe felt like she was doing the right thing when she killed her children to protect them.


Other issues for slavery included another quote from the book "Inevitably these thoughts led me to the different history of black women in this country-a history in which marriage was discouraged, impossible, or illegal; in which birthing children was required, but "having" them, being responsible for them being in other words, their parent was as out of the question as freedom".(Foreword) Having to protect Sethe refuse to take care of her children but not in a bad way just to keep them from being sold. To some people this quote might sound like the parent doesn't want to be bothered with the child they birthed because the love is not there but in reality back in the 16th century I feel like there doing the right thing.


In the 16th century when slavery still existed there were other mothers that tried to kill their children one mother escaped slavery but later was arrested for killing one of her children and trying to kill the rest. There's something else in the book called the terrain slavery a tract of land especially as considered with reference to its natural features military advantages. Not quite sure what that all means.


Beloved doesn't like being alone the thought of it makes her sick rocking back and forth with her hands folded on the ground feeling neglected and unwanted there's a quote from the book "counting on the stillness of her soul, she had forgotten the other one: the soul of her baby girl. Who would have thought that a little old baby could harbor so much rage?'(pg.5) To me the rage from baby suggs is since her spirit came back it's build with anger and frustration of being killed by her mother Sethe no one would know her name or remember who she was.


Beloved has such a hard time because she feels like Denver the other daughter gets more attention then she does it's kind of like a bad dream to her only the dream is real. The distant is a problem for Beloved eventually it's like Beloved never existed even down stream of I24 where Denver goes all the time. I think Beloveds family in the end decided not to remember her or her spirit because there was alot of drama that went on in that house the killing of Beloved by her mother for not wanting her to be sold the brutal deaths on the way they were killed.

This is not a story to pass on.
